I trust one can therefore understand that I spent most of my first reading of the first book pausing every few paragraphs and mumbling “…Really? Crossroads of Twilight”, the tenth book and the penultimate one written by Jordan, was near-universally panned by fans as ‘the book in which nothing happens’.

If you want a comparison, Dragon Reborn’s and his companions' journey is quite similar in its ‘epicness’ with the one of Frodo’s, only more elaborate. Initially, Moiraine and Siuan go with the other Accepted to record names of candidates for the bounty, but the following day are told to spend their time copying some of the less-legible lists, which gives them the opportunity to create their own list of babies who could be the Dragon Reborn. All in all, getting to know more about two beloved characters, and how they were drawn in to fight the Shadow with all they have, was payoff enough for me – and a bittersweet way to say goodbye to the Wheel of Time. A needless book that brings virtually nothing to the universe, but still somewhat enjoyable for huge fans of the series. The story does a good job of setting up the back story for how and why Moiraine and Siuan got involved in their top secret mission, and how Lan and Moiraine met and ended up in the relationship they have.She tortures Lan--premeditatedly and on a nightly basis--b/c not realizing he was in the company of an Aes Sedai, he said to a friend (while she eavesdropped) that he'd prefer to avoid their company. He comes into many tales, but his part in the story of Bilbo’s great adventure is only a small one, though important, as you will see, if we ever get to the end of it. Yes, things happen, but considering that it is only four hundred novel, not enough consequential or important things occurred. She requires aid in a desperate quest to prove the truth of a vague and largely discredited prophecy - one that speaks of a means to turn back the shadow, and of a child who may be the dragon reborn.
