About this deal

Pairing a digital sensor with an Instax printer – with plenty of creative filters thrown in for good measure – the Mini Evo aims to offer all the fun of instant photography without any of the traditional unpredictability issues. Highlights include qualifying for the BHC top twelve run-offs at Craigantlet in Northern Ireland on two occasions.

Fortunately then its built-in power cell is readily rechargeable via provided USB lead and an (optional) USB compatible mains plug, or simply by sticking its USB lead into a spare port on our laptop or desktop. This hybrid camera and smartphone printer invites those with a passion for analogue and digital to share their story. You also use the d-pad to navigate between photos in playback (left or right buttons) and to activate an in-camera crop so you can frame your prints (up and down buttons).Pros may pick it up, scratch their heads a bit, and go back to using more capable imaging equipment. Once we’d discovered what all the unmarked buttons do, and got over our initial period of familiarization, it quickly became apparent that, unusually, this isn’t an instant print camera we’ll rapidly become bored of. That said, in activating the camera for the first time via the commendably tactile on/off lever on the faceplate, we’re met with an almost overwhelming array of on-screen options, which meant that it took us a couple of minutes to work out how we could cut through all that and simply capture and output a photo. The mini EVO is a digital instant camera that successfully marries modern convenience with the vintage charm we desire from the INSTAX process. Once an image has been printed out, you’ll need to allow some time for the Instax film to develop - in other words, don’t be alarmed when it pops out completely white.

There’s also a throw-back film advance lever which, when cocked, initiates the film printing process. After stopping his top line motorcycle racing career in the year 2000 “ because I couldn’t go any faster than a 114mph lap around the TT course!

The LCD display and microSD card slot suggest the latter, which is unlikely to impress instant photography die-hards.

It should, after all, be as simple as pointing and shooting, as on competing purely analogue models from Fuji and others. The live view takes up only a small portion of your phone's screen too, so it can be difficult to use effectively. I’m particularly fond of the blue filter effect, which evokes the look of old Technicolour film, and the double exposure is also lots of fun to use. The Instax Mini Evo's built-in camera doesn't hold a candle to an iPhone 13 Pro or Galaxy S21 Ultra or Pixel 6 Pro.In other words Fuji has attempted to deliver one device that does it all, and one that has gifting potential with it. At the same time Fujifilm’s own Instax range is increasingly broad and offers a range of alternative instant print cameras to suit both purpose and pocket (money). He was Scottish Champion twice in 1986 and 1988 and also competed in many ‘road races’ throughout the UK. As it is, the camera boasts an internal storage capacity for up to 45 images to get us going out of the box. In over two decades, Fujifilm has experimented with a variety of different Instax formats from wide to square (mini Polaroid knockoff), but the mini format has remained the most popular.

It powers up almost instantly, offers a simple point-and-shoot interface and features a range of creative options through its various filters. Allan started to dabble in the bigger Hillclimb meetings from the start of his involvement in the sport. He found the discipline of Hillclimbing much more technical and a lot less boring than he though it would be! It's a fantastic idea, and one that can make point-and-shoots a little more relevant in the era of smartphones. With a history of riding motorcycles Allan has unfortunately had his fair share of accidents, but fortunately very few on the racetrack. Turns out dimensions that fit in wallets are a very important aspect to making Instax Mini prints so attractive (and giftable). The images are soft and in all but the best light they can get very noisy: if you’re primarily looking for a digital camera, this probably isn’t it. With so many filter and effect combinations, plus the ability to only print the pictures you like, the Mini Evo is the ideal instant camera for anyone looking to experiment or try out different photography styles.
