About this deal

Once you know you’re fine to use a product, cleanse brows and dry them fully before applying the tint to your eyebrows. Any moisturiser, or other skincare product or excess oils present on your brows will prevent the colour from taking properly, so for the best results, this step is essential. If your brows have started to turn grey, eyebrow dye is an ideal way to deepen them so your face has more definition. But unfortunately, not all eyebrow dyes are strong enough to cover stubborn grey hair. If you have grey eyebrows, choose a dye that’s specifically marketed for grey hair. Versatility Aside from the risk of bleaching off your eyebrows if you decide to do it at home (so, don't), there are a few other important things to keep in mind when it comes to lightening. "Ingredients used to bleach the hair [that include] high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide can cause serious burns," says New York City–based dermatologist Michelle Henry, pointing to studies that say over 50 percent of women who bleach their eyebrows notice local side effects such as redness, scaling, or itching. "If the solution is too strong, brows and hair can be damaged. Significant burns can also cause permanent hair loss. Even when done appropriately, the process can dry and damage the hair, making it more prone to breakage." There are a range of different at-home eyebrow tints available, including kits comprising a few components, to those that are ready to be applied immediately. Secondly, keep it simple. Instead of experimenting with a 12-piece tinting kit that makes you feel like a mad scientist, go for the low-stress kits that come with just a dye, an activator, and a few tools for application, or try the peel-off formulas that just require painting over your brows, letting them dry, and then gently peeling off the coating. Or, if you just want to test out some temporary one-day tints, go for a wash-off brow gel or colored brow wax.

If you’re looking for results that last weeks instead of days, we recommend choosing a permanent eyebrow tint. This will mean you won’t need to top up the colour anywhere near as frequently as with a semi-permanent option. Some permanent eyebrow tints can last anywhere between six and 12 weeks, depending on the brand.Let's first start with WTF these kits actually are. Eyebrow tinting kits semi-permanently dye your eyebrows for up to a few days or a few weeks, depending on the kit, so you can skip the brow pencils and gels every day. You'll need to follow the instructions that come with your kit very carefully (since every kit is a little bit different), but generally, you'll paint the dye across your clean, dry eyebrow, in the direction of your hair growth, covering any area you would normally cover with a brow gel or pencil.

Most products contain semi-permanent vegetable dyes specifically made for the eye area to avoid irritation. Shake the tint bottle 3-4 times into the developer and use the plastic spatula to thoroughly mix the tint until it is a smooth consistency.

days agoI was uncertain about light vs medium brown as the brow tech I have used combines light and medium brown for my brow tinting. I started with the light brown which was as dark as I needed to be. I also thought tinting each brow 2 times gave me a more even coverage. I still use a brow pencil to better shape my brows and fill in where needed. Much easier and cost effective than going to a salon for brow tinting!Helpful?(0)(0)Report J Coleman - Dallas Protect your surrounding skin. Apply a barrier of Vaseline or another petroleum jelly product to the skin around your brows to avoid staining.

days agoI’ve used other eyebrow tint kits this by far is the best. Two simple steps you are done in less than five minutes. It’s great. If there’s no reaction within a few hours, it likely means that you should be completely safe to apply the tint to your brows. However, if the test area becomes red, itchy or irritated, it indicates that you might be allergic to one of its ingredients or are especially sensitive to that particular formula – in which case you shouldn’t use the product. Note that there are eyebrow tints designed with sensitive skin in mind, and we have included such products in our list below. While we’re all for tweezing and tinting at home, lightening is a brow service that’s best left to the professionals — otherwise, you run the risk of turning your brows a brassy orange shade or accidentally singeing them off with bleach. But if you want to see what you would look like with lighter brows, Evans suggests trying a little bit of makeup first: "The one thing I would say for at home and wanting to lighten up your brows a little bit [is to use] different brow gels — there’s such a wide range of colors.” She’s a fan of Benefit 3D Browtones Instant Color Eyebrow Highlights (she loves the color magenta to spice up a holiday makeup look,) and NYX Holographic Halo Eye Tint for giving darker brows a temporary hint of lightness. Do one brow at a time. Apply the dye fully to one brow before moving to the next. This helps you monitor the processing time of each brow with precision. Note that you should only use a tint that’s made specifically for tinting your eyebrows – hair dyes often contain ingredients that make them unsafe for application on the skin around the eye area. For those same reasons, you should never use an eyebrow tint to tint your eyelashes either. Should I opt for semi-permanent or permanent? Those who are new to tinting their eyebrows at home are probably best plumping for a semi-permanent tint. Depending on the individual product, a semi-permanent tint can last anywhere between a few days to a few weeks, but can also be removed easily if you’re unhappy with the results. Comb through brows with a clean spoolie once product is applied for more definition and thorough coverage Distribute the dye. After you’ve applied the first layer of the dye to your brows, run a clean spoolie or brow brush through them to ensure that the dye is evenly distributed.

In terms of colour, our eyebrows don’t always match the hair on our head exactly; you should consider how your natural brow colour compliments your hair. As such, tinting your brows may involve going with a hue that’s slightly darker or lighter than your hair colour. This is especially true if you’re looking to create an understated, more natural appearance to your brows. What should I do to prepare for applying an eyebrow tint? Hi, if you haven’t been introduced to eyebrow tinting kits yet, hold on for a sec so I can change your life. Picture this: You’re about to do your makeup, which usually requires ten minutes of eyebrow pencils, brow gels, and positive thoughts. But instead of putting in all that effort to get Cara Delevingne-level brows, your eyebrows are already done before you even start. Welcome to the magic of eyebrow tinting, where a few minutes with an at-home tinting kit and some detailed instructions will give you semi-permanently dyed brows that can last anywhere from one day to three weeks. Yup, you'll literally be able to say you woke up like this. Let's get into what you need to know. How do you use eyebrow tinting kits? Many eyebrow dyes can be used on the hair on other parts of your body. For example, you may be able to use the dye to cover up roots between colouring appointments or to cover grey hairs in a beard or moustache.

Eyebrow tinting involves applying semi-permanent or permanent colour to create darker, more defined looking brows. And the best bit? Since brow tints can last for weeks at a time, you can do away with the everyday pencilling in, eliminating a time-consuming task of your morning makeup routine, while adding in some extra snooze time. If you’re someone who has their brows done professionally at a salon already, you could save yourself time and money by switching to tinting at home. Apply the mixture generously to one brow at a time using the small brush provided for a precise application. Be sure to apply the mixture in the shape of your desired brow and to clean up around the edges to avoid accidental staining of the skin. Another pro tip when tinting your eyebrows: outline your brows in a light layer of petroleum jelly or Vaseline. This will prevent any tint from escaping the brow area and dying the skin around your brows. Just be careful to keep the Vaseline from getting onto your actual brow hairs, since as mentioned, this could interfere with the tint working correctly. How much should I spend?
