About this deal

My guide on extending a coaxial cable has a section on how to do this. Step 3: Connect All the Appropriate Cables In simple terms, a coaxial cable splitter (like the GE splitter with 2 output ports above) is a device that’s designed and built for the purpose of providing multiple outlets for one signal. I have both V+ cable TV and Virgin Broadband. The cable comes in to the house and connects to a small metal junction called a TV/Data Isolator (one cable in (labelled "IN"), one cable out (labelled "TV/DATA")). The out cable goes to another small metal junction called a 2-way splitter (one "IN" and 2 x outputs - one of which goes to the V+ box, the second to the broadband modem). But what if you want to hook up your antenna to a second TV in another room? Then you can split the coaxial cable running from your antenna into two cables, one feeding each television.I am considering moving my V6 boxes to beside the router in the hall as the remotes do not require line of sight to work.

If anyone has any experience of this Hub 3/V6 installation and how it was done and/or any suggestions how I could get the installation I want I'd be grateful for any input. Have tried speaking to Virgin but like everyone else they are short staffed and after waiting ages for chat support the operator had no idea what I was talking about!!

Make sure each connection is tight and keep in mind that splitter connections aren’t generally weatherproof, so you may want to take measures if the splitter is installed outdoors. Use the Appropriate Splitter

Recently Virgin upgraded it to the V6 Box, which unknown to me, stopped the existing splitter working. When plugged in neither TV displayed an image. I believe this is because the splitter isn't HDCP 1.4 compatible. If so please can you also tell us what make and type the new box is? e.g. Scientific Atlanta, Samsung or Cisco and V Box, V+box or VHD box? Keep in mind that cable splitters vary in both quality and frequency range. Quality might affect how much signal loss occurs on the splitter, and frequency range should be matched to the types of signals you’re splitting. I've installed a loftbox (5 in 12 out) and have distributed 3-4 coax cables per TV point. I've done this so I can have Satelliete TV (either freesat or sky) in 5-6 locations - I'm wiring two co-ax per triplex module (for watching and recording sat TV and if required, freeview). The third is a return in case I decide to move the boxes into the hub (central distribution) in the future. There could be other reasons for you not getting any video such as the 2 TVs having different HDCP capabilities. Do both TVs have the same video handling abilities?Just as a side note, I have about 6 months ago gone from a Tivo box to a V6 box in both my living room and bedroom, a big difference we notice with the V6 box is that they are a lot noisier, the noise is a hard drive searching noise, so if you are sensitive to noise in the bedroom which some people are then be careful. You're not technically supposed to touch the box on the exterior of the building, but you can split the feed from there as opposed to splitting it on the inside post outlet. The thing is that the surge protector is usually housed within the house and not inside the box on the exterior of the building. For instance, over-the-air TV signals in the US generally vary between 41 MHz and 608 MHz, so if you use a splitter rated for OTA TV for signals from your satellite dish, it may not work since satellite TV ranges up to 2000 MHz. The phone also starts life in the NTL box on the outside wall - it's just routed along the outside of the building before coming in through the office wall.

Attach both the input cable and the output cables into the splitter, which is straightforward to do using the cables’ threaded F connectors. We could look at getting the 2 way splitter sent out, but as advised the connections would not fit. As it is now working fine, I think it would be best to keep it as it is. It has resulted in a strange problem. When I turn my TV on using my Logitech Harmony remote, I get sound but no picture. The only channel with a native 4K resolution would be the BT Sport 4K UHD channel. There's a 2160p 24, 25 and 30 fps passthrough option for Netflix which will not result in non UHD channels be upscaled to 2160p. I'd tend to suggest accessing uhd Netflix content via the TV's own app rather than via the V6 though. TV1" is routed via some trunking buried behind the skirting board/plaster up through a brush plate and in to the V+ box. When you obtain new coaxial cable, you may consider getting modern RG 6, which has more shielding and insulation from interference than RG 59.
