About this deal

Remember, these head collars work by pairing the pulling action with an uncomfortable, unpleasant consequence. Keep in mind that it will take less time to properly train your dog to wear a dog head halter in the first place than it will take you to “fix” a dog that has had a bad experience and is scared of the dog head halter! Some dogs are hypersensitive to something on their face, and it might be easier to teach them to walk nicely on the leash than to wear a head halter. At the same time, many of my reactive dog clients have benefitted enormously from the extra control that a dog head halter provides. You also have the option to attach a second collar to the other side of the headcollar, so you can steer your dog a bit like a horse if you need to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Its important to remember that for your dog having a new training aid on their head / face will feel unusual for your dog and it is perfectly normal reaction for them to try and remove it. We encourage you to help your dog acclimatise to the headcollar by using positive associations methods. This can be through using treats to encourage your dog to place their nose into the headcollar and then placing on your dog for a few seconds, then taking the headcollar off and rewarding immediately. Build up slowly to give your dog time to adjust. If your dog is trying to take the headcollar off, try to distract them with a treat or their favourite toy to prevent this behaviour. The first consideration when exercising puppies is the closure of the growth plates; growth plates are soft areas that sit at the ends of the long bones in puppies and young dogs. Until the growth plates close, they are soft and vulnerable to injury. In puppies, this closure is normally completed by approximately 18 months old and until this time, exercise should be carefully monitored. This is important as unlike a sprain, injuries to the growth plate may not heal properly and are likely to be problematic for life! As a rule of thumb puppies should have 5 mins of exercise, per month of age twice daily. For example, a 5 month old puppy can have 2 x 25 minutes. The lead has multiple metal hoops so you can shorten it but even at its shortest length, basically halved, it's very long. Too long for me and most definitely too long for what I'd consider a short/road length as the instructions say it's suitable for and by having to turn the lead four or five times around my hand, it made it quite slippery. If your dog walks happily on the lead, is not prone to undue pulling and is not hugely strong, a Halti is more than likely unnecessary for them. However, if your dog is a bit of a handful, and is large or strong enough to prove a real challenge to you when they decide that they want their own way, the Halti can prove to be a useful training aid.Haltis associate pulling with an unpleasant consequence. They may be slightly uncomfortable, and your dog may not enjoy walking with them too much. Features • STOPS PULLING - a simple no pull solution for most dogs, with both a no pull lifting action and front control steering.A perfect option for flat nosed breeds who can't wear a headcollar The Halti headcollar, and other equivalents sold under different names have become a reasonably common sight in the UK, as many dog owners find that a Halti provides more control and helps to curb pulling on the lead better than a standard collar or harness. In this article, we will look at whether or not you can-or should-use a Halti on a puppy, some of the plusses and minuses of doing so, and alternative options to explore. Read on to learn more. What is a Halti? No product is a magic bullet, but the HALTI harness prevents dogs from pulling better than a standard lead and collar because that is precisely what the product has been designed to do. Australian Cattle Dog/Bedlington Terrier/Scottish Terrier/Shar Pei/Staffie/Vizsla/Standard Schnauzer The Dogmatic Ranges offer control but are gentle looking with fun, friendly designs so that any dog will still look approachable and the Dogmatic cannot, therefore, be confused with a muzzle. We have fresh, vibrant, exciting designs and colours to match and enhance all owners’ requirements.

This is an aversive tool that can cause distrust, and will not be as effective as positive training methods. Often, training and behavioural modification can correct the types of problems that a Halti is designed to manage-and these should be explored first, before buying a specific piece of kit to change the way your dog responds and walks on the lead. The problem I was having was that looking at the instructions and photo on the front of the box, you know the padded chest area goes at the front. Senior dogs (those over 7 years) may naturally start to exercise less by walking rather than running and playing. It maybe helpful to break up your older dogs exercise into smaller sets so for example 2 x 30 min walks rather than going out for an hour. It is important to remember that dogs will often keep walking and playing regardless so it is up to us to ensure our dogs activity levels are appropriate. Look out for signs that your dog is struggling with the level of exercise you are giving him, these may include;
