About this deal

It's a good idea to protect babies' hands and cheeks with an emollient before mealtimes to stop them getting sore from food and drink. Purified Water, Liquid Paraffin 11% w/w, White Soft Paraffin, Cetostearyl Alcohol, Macrogol Cetostearyl Ether, Sodium Dihydrogen Phosphate, Chlorocresol, Phosphoric Acid. What are emollients?

Keep it simple: Using gentle soaps and cleansers avoid stripping the natural oils from your skin which helps preserve the skin moisture.

Types of emollients

Purified Water, Isopropyl Myristate 15% w/w, Liquid Paraffin 15% w/w, Glycerol, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, C10-C30 Alkyl Acrylate Cross Copolymer, Sorbitan Laurate. Indications: Epimax ® oatmeal cream and Zeroveen ® cream are additionally recommended for use as a soap substitute. Foam applicator 1ml or 3ml available from NHS Supply Chain at SFH and NUH (or also Pharmacy at SFH)- Cavilon 1ml applicator is replaced by Cutimed Protect 1ml applicator. Eucerin ®UreaRepair Plus lotion can be used if lotion required however it has been registered as ‘cosmetic’ rather than as medicines which means that it is notavailable on prescription.

Children under 1: Seek HCP advice before use. Adults, the elderly and children: As an emollient: Apply to the affected area as often as required. Smooth gently into the skin, following the direction of the hair growth. As a bath additive: Melt about 4g (roughly a teaspoonful) of Zeroderm Ointment in hot water in a suitable container. Then add to the bath ensuring that the water has sufficiently cooled before getting in. As a soap substitute: Take a small amount of Zeroderm Ointment from the tub, lather it under warm water and use as required when washing or in the shower. Pat skin dry. Date of preparation: Contains peanut oil (so do many other things - see BNF which lists the ingredients and excipients of creams) Fragrance-free 2-in-1 moisturising cream and wash with natural oatmeal (avena sativa kernal flour) for use in the management of dry skin conditions as may be found in eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, ichthyosis, elderly pruritus and other dry skin conditions. Adverse reactions: First choice - Dermol ® 500 Lotion (less greasy than Dermol ® cream). Recommended for aditional use as soap substitute. Paraffin free / low paraffin products should be reserved for patients who are intolerant/unsuitable for paraffin containing products. As per Nottinghamshire Emollient Formulary.Be careful not to slip when using emollients in a bath or shower, or on a tiled floor. Protect the floor with a non-slip mat, towel or sheet. Wear protective gloves, wash your bath or shower afterwards with hot water and washing-up liquid, then dry with a kitchen towel. Skin irritation from aqueous cream Highly moisturising emollient gel for dry skin conditions, as may be found in eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, ichthyosis, elderly pruritus, and other dry skin conditions.
