About this deal

Make sure the device or dongle is connected to the USB-C port on your PC that supports the correct Alternate Mode. For example, if you're connecting a Thunderbolt Alternate Mode device, make sure you connect to the USB-C port that supports Thunderbolt™. Your PC (or phone) might not provide enough power to the USB device. Plug a power adapter into your USB device, or try to use a different PC (or phone). USB Type-C has a new feature called Alternate Modes. If your USB-C cable has this feature, you can connect to non-USB devices that support the same Alternate Mode. For example, if your USB-C cable has the Thunderbolt Alternate Mode, you can connect to Thunderbolt devices. There's no setting to turn on—your device automatically uses the appropriate mode if it's supported. Splitters are supported in DisplayPort connections, for example, which will allow you to use one port on the laptop to connect a number of monitors, although this isn’t a very economical way to do it since it might be a bit expensive.

USB-C has one specific disadvantage, and it’s the fact that many laptops have a limited number of USB-C ports. In that case, you may find you’ll need to get a USB-C hub to widen your options. Make sure it has a passthrough for the power supply, and ideally an extra USB-C port too. Many hubs also have an HDMI connection for added versatility. What happens when you want more than two displays? This will depend, once again, on your graphics card, your machine, and how much cash you’re putting aside to invest in this. It’s worth being aware that you might only be able to have one monitor, especially on older or lower spec machines, whereas you can connect up to four screens on more modern machines. The main issue with these cables, apart from their age, is that they don't support audio transmissions, so you’ll need to connect a separate audio connector to rig yourself up properly. The USB device that you connected to reported a problem, or there’s a problem with the device driver. Make sure the video cable is securely plugged into your external display or TV. On the other end, make sure the video cable is securely plugged into the adapter. If your Windows 10 phone is already running the latest version of Windows 10 Mobile, try to connect your device to a Windows 10 PC instead. Dust or dirt inside the USB port on your device might be preventing the charger from being inserted correctly. As technology continues to progress and new standards are created, it’s becoming more frequent to find difficulties in achieving the result you want. This also applies to monitors. The everyday, casual, user might not be familiar with USB-C, DisplayPort, or HDMI, and it’s not always clear for them. Terms Apply. Promotion ends 3 December 2023. Items are subject to availability. Max 5 units per customer. Unplug the video cable from your display, and then unplug the other end of the cable from the adapter.

One of the major advantages of DisplayPort over USB-C is that you can use it more easily in newer, slimmer devices such as notebooks, tablets, phones, or displays. Since the USB Type-C connector is the latest USB interface that almost all new devices sport, this reduces the number of ports required on any one device.

Bus Type

Again, it has standard looks and doesn’t have fancy frills like the braided exterior, textured connectors, and the likes. It’s a simple USB-C to DisplayPort cable, and that’s about it. The HDMI port successfully allows one external monitor as expected, but the USB Type-C to HDMI cable I am trying to use which uses the Display Port Alt protocol cannot display the monitor, I have changed monitors and tried the cable on another laptop that successfully runs a monitor from USB Type-C and the monitor and cable both work. Hello, I recently purchsed (HP Notebook - 14-cf1506sa) and I have been having troubles getting an external monitor to work from the USB Type-C port, I have updated Windows 10 to the latest version, installed the latest drivers from Intel and HP support, I have repeatedly reinstalled the drivers on device manager, as the monitor comes up as an error, tried updating the drivers in any way I can and have come up with nothing. The DisplayPort Alternate Mode lets you project video and play audio on an external display that supports DisplayPort.
