About this deal

As with previous X-T models it features dedicated dials for shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation. There's also a pair of command dials, front and rear, which can have some of those functions assigned to them. Both command dials can be pressed inward to act as function buttons or to change the dial's function.

Beyond the reduced burst size and slower flush time, most of these will only be issues for videographers and again resolved by the X-H2 and S. Even as a hybrid shooter though, I wouldn’t personally regard any of them as deal-breakers on the 5. Though two notable exceptions (for me) from that list are the landscapers favourite XF10-24 and the XF16-80, a popular “kit” lens and perfect focal range for travel. That said, there are alternatives with the XF8-16 and the XF16-55. The 40MP sensor gives a lot of scope for cropping. Fujifilm’s double flagship models, the FUJIFILM X-H2S (released in July) and the FUJIFILM X-H (released in September), which cover both stills and videos, are now complemented with the X-T5, optimised for stills with features such as the compact lightweight body, three-way tilting LCD and dial operations. This further broadens visual production genres covered by X Series’ fifth generation. Fujifilm’s enhanced product lineup will continue to cater to the diverse needs of photographers and video creators.

You'll have room to control noise on your own when using Raw format. I looked at the output from the X-T5 in Lightroom Classic and noted strong detail and fine grain through ISO 6400, with a shift to rougher, chunkier grain starting at ISO 12800. Detail is rougher at ISO 25600, and worse at ISO 51200. If you're after a camera that outputs cleaner detail at high sensitivity you'll want a full-frame sensor. XF 30mm F2.8 R LM WR Macro, f/3.2, 1/210-second, ISO 125, Nostalgic Negative Explore the re-imaged Fujifilm XT5 collection at Harrison Cameras. Giving you the timeless, classic camera body with five generations of technological evolution for outstanding optical performance. Comparable in size to the original X-T1 and 50g lighter than its predecessor, the compact, lightweight body of the Fujifilm XT5 is perfect for taking on the go, so you can document those special moments in premium-quality wherever, whenever. This will undoubtedly frustrate the venn diagram of X-T lovers who want both the grip and the retro aesthetic, although I’m told the takeup on that accessory wasn’t particularly large. I certainly understand Fujifilm wants to differentiate between the models and provide reasons to spend more on an X-H2, but I feel killing the grip accessory for the X-T5 is an unnecessary restriction. Both cameras can also be powered and charged via a USB-C connection, which is useful if you're out and about and have a compatible power-bank to plug the camera into. Price The battery’s the same NP-W235 intro’d on the X-T4 and also used on the latest X-H bodies, with Fujifilm claiming 740 frames in economy mode or around 90 minutes of video. The X-T5 looks to us exactly like the camera a lot of Fujifilm users have been asking for: it continues the classic looks/dedicated dials approach that a lot of X-series photographers have come to love. The Fujifilm X-T5 is designed and built primarily as a stills camera, but it’s more than capable for shooting movies. For lightweight standalone filming, it can capture 10-bit 4:2:2 video at up to 6.2K 16:9 at 29.97p/25p/24p/23.98p direct to an inserted SD card. It also features F-Log2 for enhanced tonality and greater freedom in post-production. 4K UHD 16:9 and 17:9 options are available at 59.94p/50p/29.97p/25p/24p/23.98p. Downsize to 1080p Full HD resolution and you get an additional 240p slow-mo option.

Like the flip-out screen, Fujifilm’s basically saying if you want these features with the latest sensor, you’ll need to spend more on the X-H series and forgo those vintage dials. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, one of my favourite aspects of the Fujifilm X system is the ability to keep dialing slower shutter speeds beyond the arbitrary 30 second limit of most rivals. Set the X-T5’s shutter dial to the T position and you can manually select 1, 2, 4, 8 or even 15 minutes without ever having to go near a Bulb mode or special menu. So it really comes down to what you want and what shoot. The X-T5 is a more 'traditional' enthusiast camera in both looks and handling, while the X-H2 is for professionals. Both will take Fujifilm X-mount lenses. I find it hard to think Fuji would invest the money for the (probably negative) return they will get. Some camera companies will do this. Famously Canon developed their Tilt/Shift lenses fully expecting to make a noticeable loss on the process, but feeling a serious photographic system should have such things available to their users.

Thinking of choosing finance?

The X-T5 features the special Pixel Shift Multi-Shot mode, which combines 20 separate images to create a single 160 megapixel RAW file for the ultimate quality when detail really matters. The A6700 can capture oversampled 4K from 6K at up to 60p and also 4K/120p with a 1.62x crop. Video can be captured in 10-bit 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 in either H.265 or H.264 AVC files. Fujifilm’s Natural Live View option is also available, which aims to mimic the experience of shooting with an optical viewfinder, with reduced saturation and brightened shadows. This can be particularly handy when you’re shooting in high-contrast situations, and I’d consider assigning it to a function button (I use the View Mode button) on the viewfinder housing. Overall, the X-T5 gives an excellent viewing experience that’s probably better than anything else you can get at the price point.
