About this deal

Hell, you don’t even have to put these in a bowl and pour milk on them! But nutrition should not be sacrificed for convenience, at least not at the start of every day. According to a study conducted by Harvard Medical School, the more fruits and veggies you can incorporate into your diet, the better. Some of the top fruit contenders include apples, pears, oranges, and other citrus fruits. What should we know about apples and heart health? Apples can help keep your arteries clear due to the amount of fiber they contain. Both apples and pears are high in fiber. A medium apple with the skin has 4 grams of fiber, and a medium pear has 5. Researchers from Harvard University found that for every 10 grams of fiber you eat, your risk for coronary heart disease drops by 14 percent—and fruit fiber was found to be especially protective. What are the health benefits of pears and are pears good for you?

So, are there any health benefits to be gained from eating BelVita biscuits? Annoyingly, as with most answers in the world of nutrition, the answer here is “ it depends”. It depends on where you are now and what you are trying to achieve. Soft Bakes Filled Apricot launches this month and both Fruit Crunch flavours will hit supermarket shelves in September. If you are watching your calories and follow Slimming World or Weight Watchers diet, then it’s good to know there are 2.5 to 3 syns and 1.5 Weight Watchers points per biscuit (depending on the variety). Can you gain weight if you eat Belvita biscuits every day? I’m pretty sure not many people are enjoying that every morning. I hate to say it but even though they are not the worst thing to eat nutritionally, I still think that these biscuits are targeted at the kind of people that buy their breakfasts from a petrol station. The bottom line is, if you care about your health you wouldn’t want to eat these biscuits every day but having them as an occasional treat as part of a healthy and balanced diet is totally acceptable. This is a question we often receive, and the good news is: no! All apples and pears are created equal when it comes to health and nutritional benefits. The difference between varieties comes down to flavor and texture.

Well, they don’t taste awful. They do have quite an artificial flavour and the texture tells you that there are whole grains and fibre is present but they are ok to eat. Let’s not plant the seed that biscuits are ok for breakfast because before long you know that you a going to end up with a breakfast table argument about why we shouldn’t eat chocolate hobnobs for breakfast!

MY ACCOUNT

There is nothing particularly unhealthy from a strictly nutritional point of view, although some of the ingredients definitely raise an eyebrow.

In terms of nutritional profile, the Milk and Cereal biscuits weighed in with the following numbers (the basis is a single serving of 4 biscuits (45g) with using a nutritional reference value (NRV) intake of an average adult consuming 2,000 calories per day):

There would be further room for improvement away from these biscuits but it would be a step in the right direction. Apples and pears are free of saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol: Pears and apples are naturally heart-healthy not only because of what they do contain, but also because of what they don’t—namely saturated fat, sodium, and cholesterol, which may all be harmful to heart health in large amounts. They also contain less fat per 100g than other biscuits. However, 30% Less Sugar Chocolate Chip biscuits are also worth considering since they are the lowest in sugar out of all Belvita biscuits (although they are still high in calories). I definitely wouldn’t feed them to kids. Again, not necessarily due to the nutritional values but more because of the nutritional concepts. Walkers, Cadbury’s, and McVitie’s are just a few the brands making the change, with new HFSS policies being implemented this October.

Due to the use of wheat flour, Belvita biscuits are not gluten-free, unfortunately. They also have other ingredients which may contain gluten so they are not suitable for coeliacs. What’s the taste like?Breakfast biscuit brand Belvita is launching three new non-HFSS biscuit bars, including Fruit Crunch Raisin & Currant, Fruit Crunch Apple & Pear, and Soft Bake Apricot flavours. But the amount of these beneficial nutrients is not that much and won’t make much difference to your health. Can Belvita biscuits help you lose weight? If they are used to highly processed, sugary breakfasts and they liked these biscuits and wanted to swap to these instead then that would be an improvement.
