Creature features are at their best when they lean into the audience-pleasing absurdity, which Alexandre Aja certainly does in his 2019 film about killer alligators infesting the rising waters of a Florida hurricane. As Polygon’s own Floridian Petrana Radulovic wrote in her review: This is one of the big playsets for the Hidden Side theme, and it definitely shows in terms of both how the set is constructed and in everything that’s included. At over 1,400 pieces, it’s one of the biggest Halloween builds out there, and it’s definitely not short on the accessories. Unlike some of the other Hidden Side builds, this one is also incredibly creepy just on its face- this is truly a very monstrous school even when you don’t use the AR effects. Shakespeare in Love, Amistad, and Titanic: Ray (Shawn Wayans) and Brenda (Regina Hall) go to the movies to see Shakespeare, but first have to watch a trailer for Amistad 2, which includes a slave standing on a ship yelling, “I’m the king of the world.”
The Ghostbusters movies all straddle the line between spooky and funny and tend to do so in a way that really allows fans of all ages to enjoy the films. If you’re looking for a good Halloween theme that’s still going to be fun for everyone, this build might be the one for which you are looking. Based on the more recent film in the franchise, this build features both the ECTO-1 ambulance and the ECTO-2 motorcycle, as well as the full cast of heroes from the film. Air Force One: President Baxter (Leslie Neilsen) wonders at one point what President Ford would have done and glances up at a painting of Harrison Ford. Charlie’s Angels: Cindy, Brenda, and Theo change into angel outfits and adopt angel poses as they battle Hanson.
Not the scariest show on this list by a long chalk, but one of the best-loved and for very good reason. Toby Whithouse’s supernatural flat-share series was one of the greatest things to come out of BBC Three. Funny, geeky, with a cast of future stars including Poldark’s Aidan Turner, Avenue 5’s Lenora Crichlow and Years and Years’ Russell Tovey, this comedy-drama spawned a US remake and a lot of well-deserved love. The story of a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf trying to, well, be human, is a great time. The Grudge: Much of the weirdness in the house stems from the dead little ghost boy who lives there. Solving the mystery of the cursed little freak occupies much of Cindy’s time in the movie. There are few shows out there that are able to combine horror and romance without losing something from each genre, and Mike Flanagan’s sophomore Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manoris one of them. The Haunting of Bly Manor doesn’t wimp out on scares nor does the relationship between Dani (Victoria Pedretti) and Jamie (Amelia Eve) feel cheesy or forced – instead the ghost stories and love story are intertwined into a single compelling narrative.

Awesome Horror Themed Lego Set The Exorcist: A young girl named Megan (Natasha Lyonne) is possessed just like Regan in The Exorcist. Her mom calls an earnest priest (Andy Richter) and a pedophilic one (James Woods) to rid her of the evil spirit. They just end up puking all over each other until the pervy priest shoots her.
Have Luigi as the cameraman and Gooigi as the star on set. Use the suction shot to open the cardboard box. The writer-director does not possess a high- or low-brow barometer. As far as Us and Get Out are concerned, there’s only a mission to provoke, stir, wake, and mesmerize the audience by any and every means necessary. He succeeds by layering on mystery and pushing his ensemble to a physical and mental brink. At a time when most movies divest in intelligence to cater to (then lose out on) the largest audience imaginable, Peele instead prioritizes ideas to make a terrifying, enthralling horror movie for all of us. The iconic, steeply angled roof is easily detached for access to the detailed interior. The bedroom on the upper level and the living area, study and kitchenette on the lower level are full of accessories to create a cozy atmosphere. The set also includes 3 colorful trees that can be connected to create an island, plus a canoe. Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Dan works at a primate research facility where he’s trying to make apes smarter. It’s working with one ape named Caesar, who Dan takes home. This Caesar is smarter than the one in the real Apes, but less intent on freedom.
The Amityville Horror: Pervy priest blesses the house while pooping, and flies cover his face, as happens to the priest in The Amityville Horror. Peele constructed Us to spark conversation without sacrificing his instinct to be wildly entertaining. There are hilarious kills and barbarous acts of violence. There are deep societal reads on 21st-century life in the U.S. (wink) and also jokes about explaining the drug references in rap lyrics to kids. There are sequences in film that recall the most artful horror films of the 1970s — and there are sequences that directly shout out to C.H.U.D.. There’s something for everyone in Drew Goddard’s loving sendup of the “cabin in wood” genre, encompassing everything from Evil Dead to “ torture porn.” The Cabin in the Woods opens on Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins in lab coats, discussing plans for a big upcoming project. It lasts just long enough for you to wonder if you’re in the wrong movie before the title pops up as a jump scare. As it turns out, this underground facility is preparing to perform a ritual: sacrificing a group of teens. If you’re looking for another simple build, this one will definitely work well for you. It’s not about as simple as LEGO sets get, with just 133 pieces. There’s nothing here that’ s going to really push you as a builder or give you any trouble, but that’s not the point. Instead, you’re getting a build that makes it easy to put out a Halloween-themed bit of LEGO decoration without having to put a lot of effort into the building process. Sometimes, that’s worth more than a bigger set. Royal Wedding: At one point during ballet practice, someone mentions the janitor dancing. Cut to janitor Ira (Usher) dancing with his mop like he’s Fred Astaire.William Peter Blatty’s adaptation of his own supernatural horror novel is, simply put, a classic. Everything from director William Friedkin’s use of light and shadow to stellar performances from Max von Sydow, Linda Blair, and Ellen Burstyn works together to create a sense of dread that’s punctuated by some truly gnarly special effects. Sure, revisiting it in 2020 probably won’t cause you to vomit or pass out like audiences notoriously did when it was released (though that was definitely played up as a marketing stunt.) but the slow burn terror is still disorienting and spooky. The Exorcist is a product of its time but it totally holds up. Everyone — human or animal — in this movie makes incredibly stupid decisions, and that’s the beauty of Crawl. Everything that could go wrong goes wrong, thanks in no part to everyone acting like a total moron. Haley finds her dad in the crawl space of the old family home, which he just decided to visit because what if something happened to it during the Category 5 hurricane? A gaggle of teenagers raids a convenience store in the middle of the storm. When Haley and her father finally do get out of the crawl space, they decide to cross the alligator-infested waters instead of finding a stable high place in their house — very brave! The characters are all incredibly, chaotically, confidently stupid, but it is all very true to Florida, the state that regularly makes national headlines due to truly inane criminals confidently committing equally ridiculous crimes. That’s not to say the people in Alice’s life does the same, however. She’s worried that one of her biggest fans is stalking her. Her younger brother’s friends giggle and gossip about her. The police officers she calls for help seem more interested in learning about her job than figuring out what’s going on. I don’t know why, but the Scooby Doo lighthouse gives me The Fog vibes. My son has loved Scooby Doo since he was way little, so every time we bust this out I get a little misty. It’s a super fun build, we all have a blast, and it’s a great addition to any horror Lego set. The House on Haunted Hill: There’s a lot here. For starters, its a big haunted house with a basement full of dusty rooms. The skeletons from the 1959 version are also referenced when Brenda laughs at one before popping its skull off.
His 2019 follow-up Midsommar doesn’t quite hit the same high marks, but it does a good job of illustrating the mundane horror that a bad boyfriend can inflict. (Fair warning: it also features one of the most disgusting practical effects I’ve ever seen.) Robin Hardy’s folk horror stars Christopher Lee as the leader of a pagan community that engages in ritual human sacrifice. Police Sergeant Neil Howie (Edward Woodward) receives an anonymous letter about a missing girl, and heads to a remote Scottish island called Summerisle to investigate her disappearance. He soon learns that the island’s inhabitants are covering up something, and believes that they plan to sacrifice her in a pagan harvest ritual. But he soon learns that she’s not the intended target — he is. Mission: Impossible II: The motorcycle battle between Tom Cruise and Dougray Scott is re-created with Dwight and the ghost of Hugh Kane, who are both on wheelchairs instead of motorcycles. John Woo’s signature dove shot is also referenced, with the doves crapping on Dwight’s bald head. With Blade set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s worth remembering why Wesley Snipes iconic performance as the half-human vampire hunter is such a high bar to clear. Even if you haven’t seen Brian De Palma’s Carrie, you’ve probably seen at least a still from its most infamous, bloody scene. Widely regarded as one of the best horror movies all time (and the very first adaptation of Stephen King’s work, which feels inconceivable given how proliferate adaptations of the horror icon’s work are now), Carrie turns up the dial on mundane, domestic experiences. De Palma knows just how scary seeming everyday things — high school, getting your first period — can be, and winds it all into a tale of outcast Carrie White (Sissy Spacek), whose abuse at the hands of her religious mother and her classmates lead to an unforgettable prom night. —Karen Han Cabin in the Woods, is by far one of my favorite horror movies, simply because it dumps horror tropes on its head, in a good way. So when I came across this lego set, I immediately knew I had to add it to my horror Lego sets. Add a couple of little pumpkins and boom. Spook city. LEGO’s holiday sets are always pretty simple. They’re not exactly the complex builds for which the company is known, but they’re not meant to be. Instead, these builds are fun little holiday additions that you can make to celebrate whatever occasion happens to be next on the calendar. No one is going to accuse this particular Halloween build of being something that takes a lot of time or skill to put together, but it’s still a really fun celebration of the holiday that includes a nice minifigure.
