About this deal

A second man was discovered with hand wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment. A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and has been taken into custody for questioning.

Hughes, of Stroud Road, Solihull, was accused of murder by allegedly encouraging the killing, including by sending a text message to Tustin 18 hours before the fatal assault telling her to “just end him”. The pair denied murder and two allegations of child cruelty; by administering salt to Arthur between June 1 and 17 last year and by withholding food and drink. Three men have been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing outside a mosque in Coventry. Haji Choudhary Rab Nawaz, 52, was knifed outside the Jamiah Masjid & Institute, in Coventry, at around 9pm on Sunday October 1. When she was arrested for the assault, a court heard she told police that one of them "would end up dead".

Key Events

A cordon and road diversions remain in place while police carry out their enquiries. Superintendent Ronan Tyrer said: "This is the tragic death of a young man and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time. I’d urge anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have seen or recorded what happened on a mobile phone or dashcam to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Officers are speaking with residents and community leaders to offer reassurance, and patrols in the area will be stepped up.” On Wednesday, Farrell was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter by a unanimous verdict following a two-week trial at Worcester Crown Court. Mohammed Nabeel Afzal Qadri, Head Imam at the Masjid, published a statement on Facebook condemning the violence, which he said had nothing to do with the mosque. He named the victim as Haji Rab Nawaz from Handsworth, who was said to be attending funeral prayers at the time of the incident.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was fatally stabbed in Coventry city centre this morning (April 6). Officers were called to Upper Well Street just before 2.40am and found a man with serious injuries. A police cordon still remains in place around the property and along Hopedale Close. Forensics teams are currently at the scene. The friend who came to help him also suffered serious hand injuries. Sadly, 22-year-old Shuo Zou died at the scene on Upper Well Street. In a statement released by WMP, Mr Hawkesford-Barnes' family said: "I don’t know what I can say that would ever describe the impact of the loss of Paul to me, our daughters, his two older children and our family. We are devastated and life will never be the same again. West Midlands Police said the victim, who has now been named as Shou Zou, died after being found with serious injuries in Upper Well Street. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services Mr Zou died at the scene and detectives launched a murder investigation.

Imam Qadri said: “It is with great sadness and distress I have to make this statement. Last night (October 2) during a funeral prayer at around 8.55pm a man by the name of Haji Rab Nawaz was viciously stabbed on Queen Marys Rd outside the mosque car park which consequently led to his death. We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward and speak to us. If anyone has any footage, CCTV or dashcam footage then please call me or one of my team on 101 quoting log number 295 of April 6.” Steven Barnes, 64, is accused of killing the 57-year-old at a property in Hopedale Close on Tuesday, March 15. He has also been charged with the attempted murder of a woman in her 90s who is believed to be in a stable condition in hospital. Another man, aged 20, was also treated for a shoulder and hand injury. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Det Supt Shaun Edwards, overseeing the investigation, previously said: “We’re supporting the family of the man who has died at what is a truly awful time for them, and our thoughts go out to them. We’ve made some really good early progress in this investigation, but there is still a lot of work to be done in identifying all of those involved in what happened last night.Tustin has admitted two counts of child cruelty during the trial, including carrying out three assaults on the boy and also making him sit or stand in her hallway for up to 14 hours a day as part of a behavioural regime. Marlene's story should act as a warning to all women and men who find themselves within such relationships, and who choose to remain and keep quiet in the hope that the situation will improve. We currently have a man in custody but we're still in the very early stages of our investigation to establish exactly what happened and why. We understand our enquiries will lead to disruption in the city centre and we're grateful for your support and understanding." A jealous girlfriend who grinned as she stabbed her lover to death just weeks after biting his testicles has been found guilty of manslaughter. Tustin, 32, and 29-year-old Hughes were accused of killing Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, who suffered an “unsurvivable” brain injury on June 16, 2020.
