About this deal

Cover your mouth and nose with a mask and then place the fogger at a place from where it can be easily spread. While this can be true simply throwing your bee bombs into some bushes or a patch of dirt will not always produce the desired result. Ideally, seed bombs should be made the day before rain is forecast and then cast 24 hours later – hopefully before the rain has started! If it doesn’t rain then no matter, the seeds will be fine for a few days

Now for the fun bit! Plant your seed bombs by throwing them at bare parts of the garden and wait to see what pops up! Bee bombs come in several shapes and sizes, some require slightly different planting methods but all will produce fantastic bee-friendly flowers when they bloom. Monarda'Scorpion' is a 3- to 4-foot hybrid variety with purple flower bracts. It has superior cold hardiness and readily survives in zone 3. Dorset Wildflower Bee Bombs need no gardening skill, no tilling or sowing in the traditional sense. Just throw your Bee Bombs onto cleared soil and await the blossom of colour and return of native bee and butterfly species.

Advice on buying bee balm

In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of seeds with 5 cups of compost and 2-3 cups of clay powder (you could use clay soil instead if you have it). For outdoor treatments, the fogger usually contains pyrethrins and is applied using a sprayer. Avoid directly applying these near any water bodies such as sewers, drains, or garden water features. You will also want to choose a day and time when there’s minimal wind so the mist doesn’t get carried to where it can harm honey bees or other beneficial insects.

Keep an eye on the flowers, specifically when they begin to fade, and the petals drop off. You’ll be left with a brown, spiny seed head. Bee balm plants will appreciate consistently moist soil throughout the growing season. Though the plant is able to withstand brief periods of drought, supplemental water may be needed in gardens that experience especially hot weather. As noted, growers should avoid planting monarda in poorly draining soils, as root and crown rot may be a concern. Bee balm plants will perform best in beds which receive full sun, or a minimum of six hours of light each day. Basic Bee Balm Care We were always busy. Whether it was pressing apples for homemade cider or trudging through the early spring snows of upstate NY to tap trees for maple syrup, there were always chores with each new season. The leaves and flowers are edible and make a delicious (and healthy) tea and popular folk remedies. Even if you don’t care to eat them, the impressive flowers, with their long, sturdy stems, are an obvious choice in cut-flower arrangements. Their sweet, citrusy scent is a bonus. Growing Bee Balm The box of Hot Shot fogger contains four cans in total, and all four cans are used one after another. If used as directed, the odorless Hot Shot fogger can kill nearly all adult and baby wasps including those hidden in small spaces you cannot reach. If you have a wasp nest inside your house, basement, attic, storage room, or in any closed room, then the wasp bomb will be very effective. Bee balm leaves and flowers have long been used to treat a variety of ailments, purported to have the ability to soothe sore throats and upset stomachs. Most find that the dried plants taste similar to oregano, therefore making it useful in flavoring soups, salads, and other dishes. How to Plant Bee Balm Everyone outside now to throw, toss, roll or simply scatter their bombs – unless they are taking them home! If you want a bushier plant, pinch off the stem tips as new growth appears in the early spring. In late fall, cut bee balm down to just a few inches (5 to 10 cm) tall. In cold areas, it may die completely to the ground during the winter but will reappear in the spring. Problems, Pests, & Diseases If you are concerned that birds will eat the seeds then add a little paprika to the mix. It won’t hurt them but they don’t like it!
