About this deal

I was so sad that she never got to cherish so many special moments, and that she was consumed with guilt for a large portion of her life, not living completely in the moment. The author paints a positive picture of a determined woman driven by her strong beliefs in the benefit of an education although occasionally she does come across as someone who thinks herself a cut above the other servants and maybe forgets as time goes on that is exactly what she is; a servant. Reading a lovely book with a glass of vin chaud whilst watching everyone else hurtle down the slopes sounded perfect!

Apart from television presentations, Fern Britton has also featured in advertisements for Ryvita Minis. I’ll leave it to you to decide whether or not it was her dogged pursuit of her own happy ever after that hastened her demise but I know which side of the fence I’m sitting on!There are various times during my reading that I found myself empathetic for the heroine and all she had to go through…dealing with a despicable husband for so long and the manipulation pressed upon her by him, the Royal family, and the media. I was surprised at how much I admired the work that she willingly, and with love, dedicated to the Royal Family. I especially liked the fact that I had knowledge of the most recent royals mentioned in the novel, going back only as far as Queen Elizabeth II’s great-grandparents.

I enjoyed the dialogue, the moments between nursery servants Alah, Bobo and Crawfie, the turmoil of the abdication and how Crawfie's Mum perceived her daughter and her job. Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids.

Sunday Times bestselling author comes the story of Marion Crawford, governess to the Queen – an ordinary woman living in an extraordinary time in 1932.
