A lot of them produce resources or tools which are used to upgrade the tiles you have (flip them over) so they produce more and are generally worth more points. Take an action on an adjacent tile, and can be upgraded by 2 skills to take an action on any tile in the village, plus 5 points. Note that the D home tiles each have five roads, E the 12 spring tiles each have four roads, F the 8 summer tiles without boats each have three roads, G the 4 summer boat tiles have no roads, H the 12 autumn tiles each have two roads and the I 12 winter tiles each have one road.

Keyflower presents players with many different challenges and each game will be different due to the mix of village tiles that appear in that particular game.For example, if a gold counter is allocated to the jeweller for two points it does not score an additional one point. You arrive in the new world and must build your village and maximize end-game scoring to win this game. Unless you have a really good teacher, chances are you’ll just be guessing at what a decent strategy is during your first game and then see if you can pull everything together when the scoring tiles arrive in Autumn and Winter.

Throughout the game, players will need to be alert to the opportunities to best utilize their various resources, transport and upgrade capability, skills and workers. But once players invest some time and become familiar with the system it opens up a very deep and tactical game that has tremendous variation and replayability.

When bidding, players can use workers of a matching color to place them on their side of a tile to show the bid. Winning the bid on a tile is useful but you have to make sure that it’s more useful than simply letting another player take it and then using it from their village. When that happens the round ends and the tiles are divided among the players to the respective winners to be added to their village. A player may acquire resources, skills, additional workers and victory points by placing workers on the tiles in their own village, in other players' villages and (except in winter) on the current season's tiles being bid for.

When moving outbid workers, a player may supplement these workers with other losing workers or with workers from behind their screen.You aren’t merely trying to take actions solely for the purpose of scoring points in the early game but rather you are trying to set yourself for success in Autumn and Winter by being more efficient with your actions than your opponents. You can add workers to a tile where you have been outbid or move workers from a losing bid to another tile. Place a number of workers from the bag and a number of skill tiles, both as indicated on the boat tile, next to or on top of each of the boat tiles. Looking at the box and meeples I would have anticipated a lighter game but the one game I played was challenging and thought provoking in all the right ways.
