The antipyretic effect is reported to be linked to the effect on the prostanoid synthesis due to the fact that the prostanoids are the main signaling mediator of pyresis in the hypothalamic-preoptic region. If you are allergic to salicylates, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, or any of the ingredients of this medicine. The mechanism may be due to a combined local effect as well as inhibition of prostaglandins leading to decreased integrity of the GI lining. Serious skin reactions, some of them fatal, including exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis have been reported rarely in association with the use of NSAIDs (see section 4.8). Patients appear to be at highest risk of these reactions early in the course of therapy, the onset of the reaction occurring in the majority of cases within the first month of treatment. Acute generalised exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) has been reported in relation to ibuprofen-containing products. Ibuprofen should be discontinued, at the first appearance of signs and symptoms of severe skin reactions, such as skin rash, mucosal lesions, or any other sign of hypersensitivity. Ibuprofen gels are widely available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine. Other brands of ibuprofen that are applied to the skin include: Camphor, methyl salicylate and capsicum oleoresin are counter-irritants. When applied to the skin they cause cause redness and a sensation of heat to be produced. This distracts the brain from the original pain and therefore reduces the perception of pain. Radian B Muscle Rub is not suitable for use on children under the age of 6. Do not use this product if you are allergic to salicylates (e.g. aspirin), other Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (e.g. ibuprofen), or any of the other listed ingredients. Do not use Radian B Muscle Rub on broken, irritated skin. For external use only, do not use on eyes, face, or other sensitive areas. Take care to avoid getting the cream in the eyes, mouth or nose, or on the face or sensitive areas of skin such as the genitals.
